LIFE AND WORK
Room and Board Information
Students will be responsible for housing and housing related expenses during the internship period. Salem State University (approx. 30-minutes driving time from the office) has provided relatively low-cost housing to interns in the past and may be a desirable option for interns seeking a college atmosphere. Interns will be responsible for transportation to and from work as well as all meals. There is only one restaurant in walking-distance to the Gloucester office to purchase lunch so packing a lunch is advised, although if you have a vehicle driving to restaurants in Gloucester is an option. The office does have a lunchroom/breakroom, several vending machines, and filtered drinking water available.
Clothing to Pack
There is a saying in New England that, "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it will change!" New England - especially on the coast- is famous for its changeable weather. Keep this in mind when packing your clothing for the summer. It's possible that the temperatures could range from 40 degrees F to 90 degrees F. Rain, wind and other inclement weather should also be anticipated. Please keep in mind that outdoor activities and field trips will occur that require appropriate dress. Raincoats, boots, sweatshirts and sweaters are all recommended items to pack. Click here for a link to the weather in Essex County form NOAA Weather Service.
Workday Transportation to the Regional Office
Your normal workday is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including one hour for lunch. Each intern is responsible for securing transportation to and from the Regional Office each workday.
Work Details
Your internship begins on June 4th, 2012 and will end on August 10th, 2012. You are expected to be at the Regional Office from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, unless you are attending a scheduled Internship Program field trip, have a work-related absence, or have an excused absence. All absences from your daily duty station at the Regional Office must be with the approval of your supervisor.
Dress Code
Dress code at the Regional Office is "business casual." While the office practices a business casual dress policy, employees are expected to come to work well groomed and dressed for a professional work environment. Exceptions to the policy are made when outside activities and field trips are anticipated during an employee's work day. |
