2013 ALWTRP Public Hearings for the Vertical Line Rule

NMFS is holding public  hearings during August and September. The hearings are an opportunity for public to provide feedback on proposed conservation measures intended to reduce the risk of serious injury and mortality of large whales due to entanglements in vertical lines.

As a result of public input received during the DEIS scoping process, in the summer of 2011, NMFS developed six alternatives  to modify the Plan. Although NMFS identified six alternatives, one of which is preferred, public comments are sought on all the alternatives. After considering comments received on the DEIS and proposed rule, NMFS will select one of the alternatives for implementation in the final rule.
