FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLANS
ATLANTIC HERRING
Implementing regulations for these fisheries are found at 50 CFR Part 648 Subpart K
The Atlantic herring fishery is managed by the New England Fishery Management Council. The fishery is managed under a limited-access program, and utilizes a stock-wide annual catch limit (ACL), which is split into four area-specific sub-ACLs. When an area-specific sub-ACL is reached, the directed fishery in that area is closed, and only incidental catches of herring area allowed. To view images of this fishery, please click here.
