FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLANS
MONKFISH
Implementing regulations for these fisheries are found at 50 CFR Part 648 Subpart F
The monkfish fishery in the western North Atlantic ranges from North Carolina to the Gulf of Maine. Due to its broad range, the fishery is jointly managed by the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils, with the New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) having the administrative lead. The fishery is managed by means of a limited entry program where qualified participants are allocated a specified number of days-at-sea, trip limits (directed and incidental), a minimum size limit, and gear restrictions.
