NORTHEAST MULTISPECIES
Implementing regulations for these fisheries are found at 50 CFR Part 648 Subpart F
The Northeast (NE) multispecies fishery is managed by the New England Fishery Management Council. This fishery is managed using a variety of management tools, including days-at-sea, special management programs, and sectors. Recent Announcements
- July 14, 2008 - Haddock Rope Trawl (Previously Called The “Eliminator Trawl”) Approved For Use In The Following Two Special Management Programs: The Regular B DAS Program & The Eastern U.S./Canada Haddock SAP. Authorization To Use This Trawl Gear In Either Of These Programs Will Be Effective On August 13, 2008.
- July 14, 2008 - Effective August 11, 2008, The Minimum Commercial Fish Size For Both GOM & GB Haddock Will Be 19 Inches (Total Length). In Addition, The TAC Of GB Yellowtail Flounder For FY 2008 Is Being Adjusted To Account For Overharvest Of The FY 2007 Yellowtail Flounder TAC. There Also Will Be Additional Fishing Opportunities In The U.S./Canada Management Area As Of August 1.
- June 18, 2008 - New Sector Timeline For Fishing Year 2010 (May 1, 2010 - April 30, 2011) Replaces Deadlines Issued In February 22, 2008 Permit Holder Letter. This Mailing Includes A Sector Question & Answer Document And A Data Request Fact Sheet.
- June 16, 2008 - Clarification To Ensure Timely And Adequate Selection Of Vessels For Observer Deployment In The U.S./Canada Management Area (Either The Eastern Area, Western Area, Or Eastern U.S./Canada Haddock Special Access Program)
- June 16, 2008 - Effective July 16, 2008, There Is An Incidental Monkfish Catch Limit Of 50 lb Tail Weight (166 lb Whole Weight) Per Trip In The Three Existing NE Multispecies Scallop Exemptions Areas
- May 30, 2008 - Zero Trips Are Authorized Into The Closed Area II Yellowtail Flounder Special Access Program For The 2008 Fishing Year (i.e., Through April 30, 2009)
